Saratoga County District Attorney Karen A. Heggen announced today that William C. Maguire (DOB 06/18/1995), of Voorheesville, New York pleaded guilty late last week to Attempted Rape in the First Degree and Attempted Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, both “C” Violent Felonies in violation of New York State Penal Law sections 110.00/130.35(1) and 110.00/130.50(1). All things being equal at the time of sentencing, it is anticipated that Defendant Maguire will receive a sentence of fourteen (14) years in State Prison on each count, to run concurrently, with fifteen (15) years Post Release Supervision, mandatory registration under the Sex Offender Registration Act, an Order of Protection for the victim, and crime victim fees and surcharges.

On January 22, 2023, in the Town of Providence, Defendant Maguire forcibly sexually assaulted a fourteen-year-old victim, while they were asleep.  After sexually assaulting the victim, Maguire told the victim not to say anything. The victim courageously reported the assault shortly after it happened and responded to Albany Medical Center where a medical examination was performed, and critical DNA evidence was secured.

District Attorney Heggen notes that “Members of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office acted quickly to interview witnesses, secure physical evidence and photograph the scene of the crime. This brought a very strong case to our office and as a result we were able to secure this significant plea and proposed sentence.”  The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Meghan A. Horton together with assistance from District Attorney Investigator Michael Hourigan.  Sentencing is scheduled for September 23, 2023.
